New: SLS models finished in colour

SLS models are printed in white by default. It is now possible to colour SLS prototypes at SKM. Project manager Jeroen Mertens explains how we do this.

‘More and more customers asked me if we could colour  SLS (Selectief Laser Sinteren) models. I investigated many possibilities and found a dipping technique. After printing a model, we dip it into a colour bath. This gives a SLS model a perfect finish.’

Over 50 colours

Our supplier provides about 50 default colours. By dipping a model for a longer or shorter time, we define the colour intensity. This enables us to create many more shades than those 50 default colours.

Project: Modul-AIR ventilation heat pump

Every other year Inventum presents its new heat pumps at the VSK fair. For the last trade fair edition SKM made a dummy of their new Modul-AIR ventilation heat pump.

Based on the 3D models, SKM made the dummy model. The model is constructed from milled hard foam and plastic parts. We glued this into one whole. Then the dummy was painted and finished in the colours chosen by the customer.

Project: care robot Sergio

Did you know that the Technical University of Eindhoven makes the best care robots in the world? For the RoboCup@Home competition, former students, PhD’s and employees of the TechUnited team developed care robot Sergio.

SKM made the white caps of the robot using techniques such as SLA, SLS and vacuum casting. With the help of robots such as Sergio, elderly people can be independent for longer, in home or care situations.

New website live!

Not only do our customers innovate, SKM also continues to innovate! Today our new website went live.

The goal of the website is to show that SKM does more than just 3D printing. In 1997, 3D pioneers Joop Soetens, Jos Meulendijk, and Rudolf van Kersbergen founded SKM together. Now, that baton has been taken over by today’s pioneers. With the latest developments and techniques of our time, SKM is moving forward. And we want to show that on our new website.

Perfect finishing
The focus is on new techniques. Manager Dirk van Eerden explains: ‘We do more than just printing. Because we can also do injection moulding, vacuum moulding and varnishing, we finish all models perfectly. Not everyone knows this, which is why we are highlighting it on the new website’.

Beautiful projects and satisfied customers
The projects are also placed in the spotlight. Project leader Jeroen Martens proudly says: ‘At SKM we are at the cradle of innovation. This is where new inventions such as smartwatches and cordless hoovers emerge. On the website you can see what ideas we have shaped. Customers tell us why they come to SKM with their idea. ‘We can’t say for ourselves what distinguishes us from others. That’s why we asked our customers this question. Their stories are now online.’
